Human Rights and Gender Equality
We promote the rights of children, women and youth, and advance gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Our work strengthens child protection, prevents gender-based violence (GBV), and improves access to maternal and adolescent SRHR services at community and household levels.
Since 2018, we have built stronger community systems that protect children and promote safer families. Over 40,000 children have benefited from 130 Child Rights Clubs where they learn about their rights, confidence, body safety, menstrual hygiene, and how to report abuse. Parents and caregivers are also reached through Parenting for Respectability sessions, which promote positive parenting, shared responsibilities at home, and support for adolescents’ SRHR needs.
We address maternal and adolescent health by increasing community awareness on antenatal care, safe delivery, family planning, and prevention of teenage pregnancy. We work with health facilities and community structures to link women, men, and adolescents to friendly SRHR services.
To enhance economic empowerment and GBV prevention, we support 296 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) made up mainly of women and youth. These groups integrate SRHR and GBV awareness, and strengthen financial independence, key to reducing vulnerability. The groups are preparing to merge into a regional digital SACCO to improve access to safe financial services.
Together, these efforts are creating safer, healthier, and more empowered families across the Tooro and Rwenzori sub-regions.
