Democracy and Good Governance
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE
3.1 To facilitate active participation of rural communities in democratic governance processes through targeted awareness campaigns, training programs, and platforms for civic engagement. Focus areas: Civic education and awareness, leadership and development, community mobilization and advocacy and access to information.
This program is dedicated to fostering democratic values, promoting good governance, and enhancing the accountability of public institutions in Uganda, with a specific focus on the Rwenzori region. In an era where political participation and governance are critical to the development of a nation, the program aims to empower marginalized communities by promoting civic engagement, increasing transparency, and encouraging active participation in democratic processes. By advocating for inclusive governance, strengthening local institutions, and enhancing public awareness of rights and responsibilities, we aim to create a more just, transparent, and accountable society.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), this program focuses on building the capacity of communities and local governments to engage in democratic governance and ensure that the voices of marginalized groups are heard. Through active civic education, leadership training, and advocacy for inclusive decision-making, we seek to establish a foundation for good governance that promotes equal access to justice and enhances the overall well-being of all citizens.
